The deposit invoice
A deposit invoice gets you paid for part of the work before the job is finished. The balance comes later, on the final invoice.
How to do it
Section titled “How to do it”- On the project’s Invoices card, click the +.
- At the top of the New invoice panel, choose Deposit invoice instead of Final invoice.
- Enter the deposit amount, attach the PDF and send, as for any invoice — see Send an invoice.
You can send several deposits. At the end of the job, draw up the final invoice by deducting the deposits already paid: your PDF does the calculation.
It does not move the project forward
Section titled “It does not move the project forward”This is the point to remember: a deposit invoice’s statuses have no effect on the project’s status.
A deposit sent or paid does not move the project to Awaiting payment or Done, and does not take it out of Invoices to send: on the project page, the status stays Invoice to send. The final invoice is what drives progress.
The deposit still follows its own invoice statuses: you track it and confirm its payment like any other invoice.
Conditions and limits
Section titled “Conditions and limits”- The deposit invoice does not require the PLUS plan.
- The type — deposit or final — is chosen at creation and no longer changes once the invoice is sent.
- Once the final invoice is sent, the project accepts no more invoices, deposits included: so send the deposits before the final one.
- A spontaneous invoice is always a final invoice: there is no spontaneous deposit.
